Questions, answered

The short answers to what people ask us most. If yours isn’t here, ask us; it might be next.

Where is Happy Machines Company?

Everywhere the machines are. We’re a distributed company, registered in Melbourne, Australia, and we work from Austria and India, and from wherever a laptop happens to open. Between us we cover enough time zones that the sun never sets on a happy machine.

Who’s behind it?

Two people. Karthik, a product designer, and Sasi, an Apple platform engineer. Karthik designs, Sasi builds, and the machines are encouraged to have opinions.

What are you working on?

Three things, for now. Spades Audio gives every app on your Mac its own volume, output and EQ. DockTile groups your apps into iPhone-style folders in the Dock. Lango is a set of simpler communication tools, in early access. They’re all on the bench.

How do I keep up with what you’re making?

Updates has the release notes, articles and company news in one place, and its filters let you follow just one product. If you’d rather the news came to you, add our RSS feed to a reader like NetNewsWire or Reeder.

I have an idea, some feedback or a bug. Where does it go?

To hello@happymachines.company. Ideas, feature requests, bug reports, kind words and honest critique all land in the same inbox, and we read every one. Bugs are easiest to fix with your app version, your macOS version and what you expected to happen.

Can we make something together?

We’d like that. If you have a collaboration, a partnership or a project in mind, write to hello@happymachines.company and tell us a little about it. Good ideas travel well, even across our time zones.

Do you track me on this site?

Only lightly. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read, so we know what’s useful. There are no ads, no other trackers and nothing to sign up for. The privacy page has the details, and how to opt out.

Why “Happy Machines”?

Because machines should leave you a little happier than they found you. It’s the one rule everything we make has to follow.
